Customization with laser engraving

This technic allows you to have your unique skateboard with a beautiful and high quality rendering.

We are here to help and advise you, also we think you should know as much as possible to decide how you want your board to be.

The machine

Like a printer, the machine sweeps the working area. But instead of sending ink, it sends high energy photons that burn the wood extremely precisely.

Now you can understand that laser engraving can't recreate the colors of an image, there are only 2 states : engraved or not engraved.

Colors

We can bring color to your deck by staining the wood, you have the choice :

Natural and white : engraved parts are darker than the background

With the others, the engraving remove the stained layer and let the natural wood appears. The engraved parts are lighter than the background

Deeper understanding

As there are 2 states, engraved or not, there most be only 2 colors on the final file so the machine can read it. By convention it's black and white. If there are shades, like in a photography for example, we use the rasterization process : small black dots recreate the impression of shades.

You can see the dots when zooming :

The result with laser engraving

When using the rasterization process, we can't use the full power of the machine. The result is that the relief is less pronounced than when the illustration is already bicolor :

If you send us an image with colors, we will convert it in black and white, and then use the rasterization process :

The rasterization doesn't work perfectly to differentiate close grey shades. That's why we advise to use an image that has strong contrast, especially for a photography. For example, the first photo is better than the second (technically speaking) :

This photo has very dark and very light greys, almost as it was just black and white. It means that the result will be close to the photo.

Here there are middle tones that will be hard to differentiate once engraved, like the hair compared to the background on the left side of the face.

We always control your image and make adjustments to optimise the contrast.
